Paraiba Tourmaline Help?
I have this 0.49 Carat Pear Cut Paraiba Toumaline ring with 18K Rose Gold (3.2 grams) it also has 6 Round Cut SI1 Diamonds totalling 0.3 carats) I was wondering if some one could tell me the value of the ring, I've gone to several jewelers and so far they can't tell me because the gem is so rare that they haven't even heard of it.
You are right - they are rare, the cost of mining for these, can't use explosives, keeps the prices up. Here are some sites with prices for loose Paraiba Tourmalines. Keep in mind that it depends on the look of your stone (color and clarity) and that jewelers typically have to mark up about 400% to make their profit margins. So whatever you paid for your ring will be less than a jeweler will pay you (wholesale vs. retail). A jeweler will give you an estimated retail value for insurance purposes. There is usually a charge for an appraisal.
