Please help me with these ratio problems?
1) If m:n = -3:5, n:p = 6:7, p:q = -10:21, then find the ratio of m:q
Am I supposed to equate them all or something like that?
2) The ratio of hockey players to football players in a school is 2:3. If five hockey players become football players, the ratio will be 3:7. How many hockey players and how many football players are there in the school?
3) The value of an uncut diamond varies as the square of its weight (in caret). The value of an uncut diamond wighing 2 carets is $4000.
a) Find the value of an uncut diamond weighing 4 carats.
b) Find the percentage loss in value when a diamond weighing 4 carats is cut into two equal diamonds, each weighing 2 carats.
How do I do these??
Thanks
I'll answer 1 question at a time. Ask the others separately if you still need help.
PROBLEM 1:
Multiply them together. Notice how n and p cancel out:
m .. n .. p ... m
-- x -- x --- = ---
n .. p ... q ... q
In your case:
-3/5 * 6/7 * -10/21 =180/735
Then reduce it...
Answer:
12:49
